netLabs!UG mini-company

netLabs!UG established a mini-company in June as a vehicle for undergraduate researchers to gain skills experience over the summer break. It consisted of four weeks skills training in a number of areas, GNU/Linux, Python programming, MikroTik networking, GNU/Linux networking, IP Telephony (VoIP), Radio planning, MATHLAB and Project Management to be followed by the researchers developing a number of solutions based on the training delivered in phase 1. The first scenario involved the researchers building a resilient network over 2 fibre and 1 radio link for a Bank. As part of the project they designed the network and developed the code for a state machine to monitor and react to link state changes. This was successfully presented to MD Ken Stober and other staff at Simplifi Networks.
